Guiding Pillars

Poto Mitan

Citadel La Ferriere, Cap Ayitian

Guiding Pillars
1.  Gratitude & Service - We give thanks and honor to the ancestors who forged the way before us and are accountable to the generations who will follow. We experience service as joy and believe that a life of service is a life well-lived.
2.  Gather in the Courtyard - An rasanble dan lakou. We gather in the courtyard to release, reclaim and realign. We come together to heal trauma, explore avenues of repair and weave new narratives while honoring our original threads.
3. Inter-generational & Interfaith & International -we celebrate all ages and voices and respect diverse belief systems and practices. We join our networks to expand our access to resources, exchange experiences and re-imaging Ayiti and the Caribbean and the world.
4. Right Relationship" or "Tata Anshi" ( Arawak language) speaks to our commitment to co-create programs and support actions that embrace the indigenous praxis of holding all life in healthy relationship and balance.
5. Emergent Strategy & Moving at the Speed of Trust. We nurture local, critical relationships and co-design fractal, creative and impactful programs that reflect the communities self-defined needs. We build trust in order to adapt to life's inevitable challenges.
6. Change is Constant; Flow like Water. We adapt our strategies to respond to life's inevitable changes and each community's ebb and flow while moving in resonance and response to their unique strengths and challenges.
7. Recognize Patterns. We teach organizational and community mapping to collect data on the internal and external environment. This research permits all concerned to better assess and learn from the terrain to enhance adaptability and response time in crisis.
8.
Plant seeds. Observe Seasons. Reap possibilities.  Our methodology and approach to sustainable development is inspired by biomimicry or the natural world as mentor, method and measure.
9. Transformative Justice. In addition to supporting healing and addressing harm, we believe in changing the conditions that existed before the harm occurred. We work to create alternatives to punitive systems and nurture spaces of wellness for everyone.
10. Empowerment. We encourage the peaceful processes by which people and communities resist external interference and maintain sovereignty over the factors, decisions and resources that shape their lives.  .
11. Transparency & Accountability.  Our boards and administration are small, efficient and collaborative with our efforts and funds focused on reinforcing the communities we serve rather than a culture of top heavy management.
